Today, Grant Career Center sent an emergency notification after an alert was inadvertently activated on our main campus. During that process, some parents and students connected to our satellite programs and 8th grade career partnership programs also received the notification, even though the alert did not involve their school or program location.
Grant Career Center works in partnership with our affiliate school districts to provide career-technical education and other educational opportunities. We only have access to student information for students who are participating in those programs or partnership activities.
Some of these partnerships are offered to an entire grade level to help partner districts provide state-required curriculum. Because these opportunities may be delivered as part of a student’s regular school experience, families may not always recognize them as a Grant Career Center program or partnership.
Student information associated with those participating students is shared between the partner district and Grant Career Center as needed for educational and reporting purposes. Because those students were included within our partnership records, some were inadvertently included in today’s emergency notification group.
We apologize for any confusion or concern this may have caused.
We have identified and corrected the error within our all-call system that caused these families and students to receive the notification. Future emergency alerts should now be directed to the appropriate students, families, and program locations.
We also want to share an important reminder regarding Apptegy, the notification system used to send these alerts. All of our affiliate schools also use Apptegy. Apptegy gives recipients the option to stop notifications by texting STOP to 98900.
If you texted STOP to 98900 after receiving today’s message, you may have opted out of all notifications sent through Apptegy, including important alerts and communications from your home school district.
