The Grant Career Center (GCC) leadership team recently spent a productive day at the Ohio Statehouse strengthening relationships, advocating for Career Technical Education (CTE), and celebrating the people and programs that continue to move student success forward.
The day included a meaningful meeting with Adam Bird, where GCC leaders thanked him for his continued support of our district and for championing CTE across Ohio. The team also emphasized the importance of including career-technical educators as subject-matter experts as education policy is discussed and proposed. Ensuring that policy decisions are informed by practitioners who work directly with students is critical to sustaining high-quality CTE programming.

GCC was also proudly represented at the Student Success Fair at the Ohio Statehouse by our Animal and Veterinary Sciences (AVS) program. Students and staff showcased the hands-on, real-world learning that defines Grant Career Center. Representative Bird capped off their experience by treating the AVS team to a behind-the-scenes tour of the General Assembly floor—an unforgettable opportunity to see state government in action.

During the visit, GCC leaders also attended the CTE Legislative Seminar, where they had the pleasure of hearing from Mike DeWine. Governor DeWine’s unwavering support for Career Technical Education has made a lasting impact on Grant Career Center, directly contributing to improved facilities and cutting-edge equipment that enhance student learning and workforce readiness.
The day concluded with the opportunity to introduce and thank the dedicated team from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Office of Career Technical Education. Their staff are tremendous advocates for CTE and for Grant Career Center. GCC leaders were especially pleased to connect with Jeremy Varner, Deputy Director of Career Technical Education, whose leadership and support continue to strengthen CTE programs statewide.

Grant Career Center remains committed to advocating for students, partnering with policymakers, and ensuring that CTE voices are heard as Ohio shapes the future of education.
