In mid-March, the Grant Career Center chapter of the Business Professionals of America proved that they were ready to “Imagine, Believe and Become!” at the national competition in Anaheim, California, by competing in the State Skill Competition and Leadership Conference in Columbus and bringing back numerous awards. Seven BPA members traveled to Columbus for two days of testing and competitive events. During their stay, the students participated in social events and a variety of activities at the Columbus Convention Center. Students were competing with Business Professionals of America members from all across the state of Ohio.
Grant Career Center Medical Information Tech students who were recognized for their outstanding achievements by placing in the top ten at the state level include Carrie Buckley, a senior from New Richmond who placed in the Advanced Office Systems and Procedures contest and Katie Smith, a senior from Felicity-Franklin who placed in the Medical Office Procedures competition.
Caitlyn Wilburn, a Medical Information Tech junior from Felicity-Franklin, earned the opportunity to represent Grant at the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California on May 5 through May 10, 2015, with her first-place win at the State Competition. Caitlyn placed first in the Advanced Word Processing contest where she had to demonstrate her ability to produce various office documents using advanced features in Microsoft Word software. “When I was announced as one of the Top Five, I was very excited because I knew that I had earned the trip to California. But when I was first, I was very proud of myself for putting in the extra effort that got me there!”
Caitlyn will join approximately 6000 conference delegates from across the nation as they participate in national-level business skill competitions, workshops, certification testing, general sessions, and the national officer elections. She will also have the opportunity to visit historical sites and places of interest in the Anaheim, California area.
