Adult Students Ready to Begin New Careers

Six adult students recently graduated from their nine-month Computerized Business and Medical Applications program at Grant Career Center to begin new careers. Under the guidance of instructor Kim Caudill, the students prepared for positions as administrative assistants, receptionists, medical and dental record clerks, or a myriad of other office positions where their new skills could shine.

In addition to providing technical computer skills, this program includes job-seeking skills, resume writing and preparation, and the opportunity to receive Microsoft Office Specialist Certifications. Students in the program passed 11 total Microsoft Office Specialist Certifications in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Congratulations on obtaining industry credentials!

At the Commencement Ceremony, graduate Sarah Ellis spoke on behalf of her class. Ms. Ellis shared with the audience the many ways that the group had grown and changed through their training. All of the graduates felt they were prepared with skills and most importantly, the confidence to head out into the workforce. She also shared a PowerPoint presentation with her new skills that highlighted class activities and memories of their time together at Grant. Students who didn’t know each other nine months ago joined together and shared a smile and a laugh as they recalled their educational journey. The whole class collaborated on another PowerPoint presentation to thank their instructor, Kim Caudill, for all of her time and efforts in preparing them for this step of their career.

Graduates in the Computerized Business and Medical Applications Program received their Career Passports from Adult Director, Mrs. Jean Grider, and Grant Career Center Superintendent Lisa Tuttle-Huff.  The Class of 2014 includes Sarah J. Ellis, Kimberly Gallimore, Andra B. Gentry, Amber Martin, Tracey L. Reynolds, and Crystal Ricker.
