Grant Career Center proudly announces the opening of the Animal Science Facility that will house two new programs for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year. The addition of Equine Science and Veterinary Science programs to our existing programs will offer students outstanding opportunities in our agricultural community.
The Animal Science Facility has been built on the Grant Career Center campus and has utilized an existing barn that has been renovated for the Veterinary Science program. It contains a lab setting, grooming area, small animal clinic, pet room and kennel areas. A new barn has been added behind the existing barn for the Equine Science program with 12 stables to house the horses. There will be room for expansion as the program grows. A connecting corridor has been built between the two buildings that holds classroom areas, office and locker spaces and a reference room.
Students who enroll in the Equine Science program can enter many career paths including equine health care, horse breeding, training and instructing. They will learn about breeding, genetics, and nutrition while acquiring skills in Western and English horseback riding, grooming, and equine management. The Veterinary Science program will prepare students to pursue careers in the veterinary field. Veterinary Science students will specialize in four different courses while enrolled in the program covering topics such as animal classification, animal welfare, reproduction and genetics, body systems, anatomy and physiology and environmental management. While at Grant, the students will take a full complement of academic classes that will prepare them for graduation and post-secondary education options. Students will also be active members of the National FFA Organization.
There has been a flurry of activity in the Animal Science Facility as we prepare for the start of the new school year! All the finishing touches are getting completed and the hollowed out facility is coming to life! We invite everyone to "See How We Have Grown" at our Open House on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 4:30 to 7 PM.
