In addition to being knowledgeable about the subjects they teach, teachers must have the ability to communicate, inspire trust and confidence, and motivate students, as well as understand the students' educational and emotional needs.

Overview
The Teacher Academy is for college-bound seniors who want to become professional educators. Students are assigned to internship experiences in area schools where they work in classrooms with professional teacher mentors. These experiences change throughout the year and include exposure to multiple age levels and content areas (early childhood, middle school, high school, special needs, and career-technical education.)
Program completers will create a Praxis III portfolio, which may be considered for college articulation at partnering colleges.
Admission Requirements
- College-prep student with 3.0 GPA based on a 4 point scale
- 93% or better attendance rate
- Must have attained senior standing with no academic deficiencies and have passed all five parts of the OGT test
- Expressed interest in pursuing the teaching profession
- Provide own transportation to area schools
Upon successful completion of The Teacher Academy, students will receive 2.5 credits for the half-day (afternoon) program. Students will complete college-prep studies at the home school in the morning.
