NEW RICHMOND

Seniors:  Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center will be offering a paid Summer Internship Program for science students interested in pursuing a Medical Career.  The Internship will run from June 16th until August 10th 2010.  Applicants must be graduating from high school this year (2010).  See Mrs. Coulter for more information and a copy of the application.  Deadline for applications is Monday, April 12, 2010.

Cincinnati’s Children Hospital is offering an 8-week program to high school juniors and seniors who are interested in their Sickle Cell Science Program.  Fellowships begin June 7 or 14.  Students need to have a strong academic record and demonstrate an interest in the sciences (generally completed multiple AP lab science classes or equivalent).  See Mrs. Coulter for an application.  Deadline is March 30, 2010.

Seniors:  If you plan on attending UC Clermont in the fall you may be interested in their scholarship packet.  Pick one up in the guidance office at N.R. or online at www.ucclermont.edu

If you have earned a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and are completing your freshman, sophomore, or junior year, you may be interested in Ohio University’s Summer Honors Academy.  Learn what it means to take regular college courses and live on campus.  For more information visit www.ohio.edu./honoracademy

Seniors:  Please check the New Richmond website for updated scholarship information.  You will find the link to scholarships under the guidance tab.  Make sure you pay attention to deadline dates.  Also, if you are entering the field of education and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, see Mrs. Coulter for another scholarship opportunity.

Juniors:  Xavier University offers a summer program for current high school juniors, who will graduate in May, 2011.  If you are interested in taking a college course for credit at Xavier this summer, see Mr. Reaker in the guidance office at N.R. for information on pricing, applications, and eligibility.  Application deadline is Mar. 27, 2010.

The NRHS Talent Show has been cancelled.  Please see Mrs. Griffin for audition refunds.

Attention all artist and aspiring artists:  March is Youth Art Month.  On Tuesday, March 16, we will observe Youth Art Month.  Observance will be in Miss Gibbon’s and Mrs. Hauserman's rooms. Interested students are asked to make mini artworks for an exhibit and auction that will be held at the end of the month.  All students are welcome to participate.  Please see Miss Gibbons or Mrs. Hauserman for more details.  Art Quote of the Week:  The job of the artist is always to deepen the mystery.

It’s time for the Senior Messenger Issue again.  Grant students can pick up senior packets from Mrs. Griffin.  Packets are due back to Mrs. Griffin in room 204 by Mar. 26th.  If you would like to have photos included in your biography, please turn in your pictures to Mrs. Griffin at the time you turn in your packet.  Photos will be printed as space allows.  See Mrs. Griffin with questions.

PTO Parents and Seniors:  The guidance office will have scholarship packets (hard copy) available beginning next week for seniors who plan to apply for a PTO scholarship.  Remember:  Your parents MUST already be a member of the PTO and must have attended at least one meeting (there are two more meetings before the April 30th scholarship deadline), they must also obtain five hours of parent volunteer service from a PTO sponsored activity/event. (There are several opportunities in the near future for parents needing hours:  Easter Bunny Breakfast, Flying Pig Marathon Goodie Bag Stuffing, Quarter Auction, and the Hazel Davis Swim Registration.  Seniors, remember you need 50 community service hours to be considered for the PTO scholarship).

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny is March 20th in the HS cafeteria.  There will be face painting, crafts and prizes.  Breakfast will include:  Delicious waffles, bacon, coffee and juice.  The price is $4 ages 1-10 and $5 ages 11 & up.  Advanced tickets are available at New Richmond Rivertown IGA.  If you have questions call 553-2289.

Any student who is not currently in choir but is interested in joining choir next year, see Mr. Heflin sometime this week.

Students interested in joining the Men’s and Women’s Choirs should plan on attending rehearsals this week.  The Women’s choir meets on Tuesdays and the Men’s Choir meets on Wednesday.

A Renewal class for lifeguards who need CPR for Professional Lifeguard will be held on Saturday, Mar. 20th from 9 A.M. until 1 P.M.  You need to bring you book and mask for the renewal.  See Mrs. Middeler if you have questions.

See How They Run rehearsal will be right after school all this week.

SENIORS:  We need to get busy selling our discount cards.  Please bring any money from the cards you have sold to Mrs. Flamm, ASAP.

Student Against Destructive Decisions:  We will have a work meeting on Monday, Mar. 15th until 3 P.M.  We will put together a flyer and make posters for our spring fundraiser.

Brackets for Books:  NRHS is giving back to the community by sponsoring Bracket for Books.  Fill out a bracket and attach a minimum $5 donation to enter.  All proceeds go to the Clermont Brown Literacy Council.  If you have the most correct bracket, you will win a $100 mall gift card.  The deadline for all brackets is after school on Wednesday, 3/17.  We are also collecting used books—no magazines please.  Good luck to all who participate.

The prom committee is looking for group pictures of juniors and seniors for prom.  Pictures from clash, spirit week, pep rallies, and past homecomings would be appreciated.  Please see Mrs. Minning or Tori Crooker.

WEEKLY FOCUS

FAIRNESS

IT IS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT TO KNOW WHAT IS FAIR THAN WHAT IS UNFAIR.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

The truth is found when men are free to pursue it.
