Career Development Training

Grant Career Center offers two career-training opportunities: Computerized Business and Medical applications (CBMA) and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). These programs prepare students with job skills to meet the demands of the current job market.

Full-time students in CBMA must have a high school diploma or GED to attend. The CNA class does not have this requirement.

Financial aid is available to students who qualify for the Computerized Business and Medical application program only.

Computerized Business and Medical applications

This intensive nine-month career-training program prepares individuals to perform the duties of an administrative assistant and/or personal secretary for employers in health care positions, business, and government.

Class times: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Monday thru Friday
Next session begins August 2008 and ends June 2009.
Non-refundable application fee of $40
Tuition and books: $4731.00

Nurse Aide Training Program

To be a state-tested nurse aide is a challenging and demanding career. People are living longer, and the population over 65 years of age increases every day. Long-term facilities need qualified nurse aides now and the need is expanding rapidly. As a nurse aide, you can join a professional healthcare team as a trained caregiver. You can also find employment in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and other medical sites.

Class Schedule

Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6-9:30 p.m., and are completed in 9 weeks. Clinical hours are scheduled with an area healthcare provider on 3 Saturday mornings, 6:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. A mandatory minimum of 16 classroom work hours must be completed before a student is allowed clinical contact with residents.

Students must be at least 16 years of age. applications are taken on a first-come first-served basis. Classes fill quickly and space is limited. application with full tuition of $450.00 is guaranteed where space is available. A minimum of $150.00 tuition payment must be submitted with the application. The balance must be paid in full at least one week prior to class.

The Grant Career Center Nurse Aide Training program contains both classroom and clinical instruction in the following areas:

  • Social Services Skills
  • Resident Rights
  • Safety and Emergency Procedures

Following successful completion of your program, you will be prepared for state testing which will qualify you to begin your career in healthcare. Testing sites are located throughout the area. Your instructor will assist you in scheduling your test. Costs are determined by the state board. Successful completion of the test is required for certification. Employers often reimburse or pay cost associated with training and/or testing.
